The Filipino Women: Cory and Leonor, Gabriela and Imelda (Carmen Guerrero Nakpil)

In this beautifully – written essay by Carmen Guerrero Nakpil, she made distinctions between Cory and Leonor, and Gabriela and Imelda, and at the same time established a connection and similarity between these two pairs of known Filipinas. She also defined more general similarities that all of these four women share.

Moreover, she made Cory, Leonor, Gabriela, and Imelda representative of the Filipino women in general, specifically the Overseas Filipino Workers who succumb to the hardships of working abroad for the sake of giving their families a decent living.

As another Filipino, and a woman on that part, I had this pride after reading the article. In a world where the Filipino workers are internationally known as domestic helpers (as once carelessly defined by Oxford dictionary), this piece is an esteem – booster. Yes, we are extravagant, abnegated, faithful, determined, intelligent, and ingenious.
